Going, going, gone…

The last bastion of mobile-free zone is about to fall in India. Kingfisher airlines is negotiating with OnAir, the German telephone equipment company, to introduce the facility of using GSM mobile phones on their flights. It is not clear whether such a usage is permissible by law or is it just a function of having relevant technology on board. Of course it has the potential to be a public nuisance especially if you are sitting close to a person who insists on telling the world about the charms of Airhostesses in decibels far above your comfort zone. Will this development spawn a new category of Value Added Services – perhaps linking frequent miles points to number of minutes of mobile usage while in flight or even special promotion schemes by advertisers?
